Overview
The HPE Networking Instant On Switch 8p Gigabit 4p CL4 PoE 65W 1840 (S5E26A) is an eight-port smart-managed Layer 2 gigabit switch with Class 4 Power over Ethernet on its first four ports and a 65 W total budget. Ports 5 to 8 are standard gigabit copper.
The half-PoE layout is deliberate and is what keeps the model affordable: four powered drops covers the typical small site — a pair of access points, a camera and a desk phone — while the remaining four ports serve unpowered devices. Each PoE port delivers up to 30 W for IEEE 802.3at Class 4 devices, and also supports any 15.4 W 802.3af endpoint.
It is fan-less, which matters more here than the spec sheet suggests: an eight-port PoE switch usually sits in the room it serves rather than in a rack, so silent operation is the difference between mounting it in a reception area and hiding it in a cupboard. Switching capacity is 16 Gbps with an 11.90 Mpps forwarding rate, and there are no SFP ports on this model.

Before You Enquire
Four, one per PoE port, within a 65 W total budget. A full-draw Class 4 device takes up to 30 W, so two 30 W devices consume most of the budget; typical access points and cameras draw far less, and LLDP allocation gives each port only what it requests.
Choose the S5E26A where four powered ports and 65 W are enough and no fibre uplink is needed. Choose the S5E27A where all eight ports must supply PoE, the budget needs to be 124 W, or two 1G SFP uplinks are required.
Compare the S5E27APorts 1 to 4 supply IEEE 802.3at Class 4 PoE. Ports 5 to 8 are standard gigabit copper with no power.
It supports table-top mounting, wall mounting with ports facing up or down, and under-table mounting using the brackets provided. Rack mounting options are documented in the QuickSpecs.
No. It is fan-less, along with the other two 8-port models and the 24-port non-PoE S5E28A, making it suitable for offices and other acoustically sensitive rooms.
